On March 31st, 2022 The Center for the Arts is offering “A Night Out’ for families and educators. It is a free event that will provide an opportunity for our community to learn about our art programs, after school classes and workshops, the new children’s theater company, and will demonstrate how The Center is a critical resource in providing opportunities for art exploration in our community. The event will be held from 5:30-6:30pm and will include special guest Scott Lay, Superintendent of Schools. The other presenters will be Holly Pettitt, Director of Nevada City School of the Arts, Amber Jo Manuel Executive Director of the Center for the Arts, and Kimberly Ewing, Arts Education Coordinator, Superintendent of Schools. Refreshments will be provided. For the night of the event The Center for the Arts will also be providing free on-site childcare with pizza and snacks for the children.
The Center of the Arts is proud to launch CREATE (Center Resource for Education, Art & Theater Exploration) to increase educational opportunities for children and adults in all mediums of art. The Center offers programs in theater, painting, mixed media, photography, and music. The CREATE program will expand those efforts to include adult programming over the coming months. A generous gift of $25,000 from EventHelper.com will directly fund the launch of The Center’s newly established The Main Stage Playmakers, a children’s theater group which will have its first production in Summer 2022. The group aims to provide a theater experience for children ages 7-15, and will have 3 productions a year. The Center is thrilled to bring live theater to our stage for the first time since the building remodel that was completed in March of 2020.
“It is so important to provide access to arts education for both children and adults,” said Amber Jo Manuel, Executive Director of The Center for the Arts. “During the pandemic when we were not producing on the Main Stage we focused on the needs of the community and quadrupled our arts education programs. Now as we discover The Center’s new normal, we recognize the critical need in our community for more access to the arts. The Center has created an arts campus with its new facility and is focused on building a robust arts education program year round that caters to all ages.”
The CREATE program offers scholarships to any attendees in an effort to remove financial barriers for those that want access to the arts. In 2021 alone The Center provided over $11,000 in scholarships for 57 students to attend classes. One parent wrote: “My son was becoming a casualty of the pandemic and I could see the depression and loss of spark in his personality as the months wore on, so I was so excited when I came across your class through the center!!! My boy is sparkling again, and he needed this place to express his exuberant personality! Thank you for being available and giving of yourself so that kids like my son have a much-needed resource.”
