The Center for the Arts is kicking off a new, interactive series to bring the community together online. In Conversation With invites you to explore creative topics with local experts in Food, Nature, Art and Lifestyle. Each episode includes an interactive Q&A online via Zoom. Streaming Sundays at 4:00 p.m. Pacific time.
The weekly series premieres on January 3, 2021, with a conversation about Ayurvedic Lifestyle featuring Dr. Marc Halpern, President and Founder of the California College of Ayurveda in Nevada City. On Sunday, January 10, participants will discuss ways you can heal your gut with Clinical Nutritionist, Jessica Flanigan. Ryan Murray, Artistic Director and Conductor for Music in the Mountains, invites us to learn about “The Benefits of Classical Music and Choral Singing” on Sunday, January 17. Then, on Sunday, January 24, local legend and trail guide, Hank Meals, shares how and where you can enjoy this glorious winter season on trails throughout our watershed.
The format is informative and inclusive, encouraging guests to ask questions and join in the dialog. Each episode is hosted by Jacob Freydont-Attie, a writer, filmmaker, graphic designer, and former lingerie salesman who grew up in rural Nevada County without the distractions of electricity, telephones, or television. After receiving a B.A. in religious studies from Oberlin College, he spent ten years on Hollywood Boulevard running the family business, the world’s largest lingerie store, before releasing, “String Theory,” his first feature film, and “Cross of the Moment,” a full-length documentary on climate change and capitalism.
From tattoo artists to mushroom hunters, naturalists to nutritionists, farmers to brewmasters, In Conversation With will feature the very best of Nevada County, and The Center wants you to be a part of the conversation. Anyone can participate. Members can join for free and have access to replay past episodes from our newly assembled members’ library. For the past 9 months, The Center has offered online programming free of charge while continuing to pay staff, camera crews and stage techs. Starting in 2021, members will continue to receive a wide range of complimentary online programming but nonmembers will be required to purchase an online ticket.
