In this Creative Cartooning Summer Camp, students will build confidence in their drawing skills and use their imagination and sense of humor to design their own cartoon characters. This is a playful fun class in which each student, regardless of skill level, will get to explore a range of mediums and tools and receive support to create several cartoon based projects. Each day we will focus on a different project, including a cartoon self portrait, a character poster, comic strips, a comic book cover, and a flip book!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Sarah Lafayette
I’m a local freelance illustrator and educator, creating everything from children’s book illustrations and band posters to murals and album covers. I recently taught a Cartooning Elective for middle schoolers at Nevada City School of the Arts, and I also work with Transitional Kindergarten students.
I love helping kids discover the joy of art, build confidence, and explore their creativity. In my classes, students get hands-on guidance, plenty of encouragement, and the freedom to try new things — all while having a ton of fun and leaving proud of what they’ve created!
