Welcome to a week of making, moving, and imagining! In ArtJoy WonderWorks, kids explore all kinds of puppets, build their own creations, and bring characters to life through movement, voice, and storytelling.
Each day introduces a new puppet style, from tiny hand puppets to big, silly mouths and even flying puppets. Campers don’t just make puppets — they play with them, give them personalities, and invent stories together.
Create multiple original puppets to take home
Discover how puppets move, talk, and show feelings
Make up characters and simple stories
Practice teamwork, confidence, and creative expression
Share their creations in a fun, informal puppet celebration
(All materials and tools are child-safe, with close supervision.)
So many ways to bring a puppet to life!
Day 1: Meet the puppets! Sock and upcycled puppet fun
Day 2: How does it move? Sculptural and string puppets
Day 3: Big mouths, big voices, BIG silliness
Day 4: Stories take shape + flying puppets
Day 5: Puppet party! Sharing stories and celebrating creations

Toni Mikulka-Chang is a multidisciplinary artist, puppeteer, and teaching artist with over 20 years of experience working with children and adults. She is the founder of ArtJoy, Yoga Pottery, and Giant Puppets Save the World.
Trained in fine art, anthropology, and puppetry, Toni studied at SUNY and apprenticed with the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater in Vermont. She later worked as an early childhood educator and teaching artist at Habitot Children’s Museum in Berkeley, where she designed hands-on, play-based art programs for young children and families.
Toni has worked with clay for over 25 years and teaches pottery to adults and children through her Yoga Pottery practice. Her creative work spans ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, puppetry, and large-scale installations, and she performs at festivals, museums, and community arts events throughout California and beyond.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes process over product, curiosity, and joyful discovery, creating inclusive spaces where all learners can explore materials, tell stories, and build confidence through art.
