In September 2019, pianist and composer Lisa Swerdlow was invited to perform at the Place des Arts in Montreal for Enlightened Piano Radio’s annual awards ceremony and concert.  While there, she met with several other finalists and launched the idea of gathering in her hometown of Grass Valley for a combined concert. The five of us come from a variety of musical backgrounds and each brings a unique sound to the genre, loosely described as “Contemporary Classical Crossover.”

Like so many others around the world, we have become more attuned to our values and priorities during the uncertain and unprecedented times we have faced in 2020. As solo piano artists, it has become crystal clear to us that literature, arts, film and music are essential to us as individuals and as a society, and we are united in our desire to express ourselves through our music, conveying our messages and telling our stories using the eighty-eight keys of the piano in the same way that singer/songwriters use their voices.

Dan Kennedy describes it this way: “Our piano music is intimate by design; regardless of the size of the performance venue, we want our listeners to feel like they are attending a private house concert, much like the salon events of the 1800’s, when the greatest performers still composed and improvised.”

Our wish is to provide you with an evening of respite from the worries of the world. Listen carefully, and you will hear the sound of our hearts.

Ten Hands 88 Keys Members:

Lisa Swerdlow is an independent artist whose solo piano compositions are featured on her debut CD Equus Rising (2017)  her acclaimed second CD, Voyager, newest release, Lasting Impressions.  Her music video, Yuba River Journey won first place at the Golden Gate Film Festival and the International Independent Film Festival in 2018.  Her album, Voyager, was a finalist for Best Album of the Year from Enlightened Music Radio in 2019. After 20 years in the Bay Area, Lisa moved to Grass Valley, California in 2008 and created a life centered on the rhythms of the seasons and the inspiration of her horses, her garden and the Sierra Nevada foothills. After a long hiatus, she found her way back to the piano and was newly inspired to compose and perform her original music.  Lisa’s music is emotionally evocative and uniquely expressive – each piece takes you on a journey.
