Welcome to Nisenan Heritage Month. As part of this month’s tribute, you are invited to attend the 12th Annual Nisenan Heritage Day! Virtual! And a fundraiser for the 501c3 non-profit California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP) whose mission is to: PRESERVE, PROTECT and PERPETUATE NISENAN CULTURE.

Tune in to learn more about CHIRP’s exciting programs, our vision, and how community members like you can help reframe the future for the Nisenan, the land, and for us all. We’ll explore:

++ Land Back Movement/Rematriation

++ Ancestral Homelands Reciprocity Program

++ ’Uba Seo: Nisenan Arts and Culture

++ What is sovereignty and why it must be paired with return of the land

++ Creating a culture shift locally and growing it

++ The recent positive shifts in Indian Country and why this doesn’t extend to NCR

++ Nisenan curriculum in local schools

This fundraiser features renowned musical artist MaMuse! We’re so happy to have them with us again!!

California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project is a 501c3 non-profit organization and funds raised by this event support Federal Recognition and Cultural Revitalization efforts. The Nisenan Tribal members of the Nevada City Rancheria are original, lineal descendants of the Nisenan, who were here before the gold rush and remain here in their Ancestral Homelands today.
