The Center For The Arts Presents From The Center: Kyle Ledson
September 25, 2020 @ 7pm
A Live Broadcast Event
Since age 3, Kyle Ledson has embraced acoustic music as his very best friend. He first picked up a fiddle from the free fiddle music lessons offered to the kids at the Strawberry Music Festival. Every morning we’d wait in line to sign up for a slot with an instructor. The Kid’s on Bluegrass program at the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival held by the California Bluegrass Association (CBA) was Kyle’s next exposure to kids playing instruments. This really inspired Kyle as he saw these teenagers really doing something with their music. Kyle participated in the Kid’s on Bluegrass program yearly hosted by Frank Sullivan and Kyle wrote a bluegrass song for the kids to play together called “Bluegrass Heart.” Mostly self taught, Kyle has learned the secret backroads of the fretboard and sharpened his flat picking skills to make the mandolin (and now guitar) sing. Kyle started writing his own toe-tapping tunes coupled with his crafty lyrics when he was just 8 years old.
When Kyle turned 14, he recorded his first studio album, in analog, at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco. What an amazing experience that was. Nat Keefe from Hot Buttered Rum produced Kyle’s 6 song EP, “CROOKED MANDOLIN,” of all original tunes. Kyle was backed on his recording by most of the members of Hot Buttered Rum, the T-Sisters, and IBMA flat picker of the year x2, Molly Tuttle. The inspiration this 14 year old took home from this experience was worth every penny spent. His music skills seemed to exponentially grow that year as he simply couldn’t put down the guitar.
After recording his EP, the music world has started to open up some amazing opportunities for Kyle. He was featured in the Return of the Peacock documentary from JamgrassTV which showcases the String Summit music festival and he got to meet some of those artists the following year which has blossomed some great friendships and exciting future collaboration possibilities. Kyle has picked on stage with Yonder Mountain String Band, ALO, Hot Buttered Rum, The Brothers Comatose, and many more. Camp Deep End at Camp Navarro has been a big support and boost to Kyle’s early music career – thank you Dan and the Deep End family. Nevada City locals will see Kyle making many special appearances at the Crazy Horse Saloon – thank you Tyler and the rest of the CH crew. We would like to give thanks everyone that has helped along this journey- from the promoters to the venues to the bands, photographers, and tapers to the fans & dancers & kind reviews and new friends, it’s all such a magical experience that we are happy to see grow.
