Producing a magazine is a fun and creative way for students to enhance their reading, writing, and social skills. Students 8-14 are invited to join this four week class to learn the basics of how to create their own magazine start to finish, including organizing and planning of content, writing stories, interviewing subjects, taking photos, drawing comics and graphics, the printing process, and more. The class will also explore the various formats on how to create a magazine either by zine style of cut and paste, online platforms such as Flipbooks and Canva, or with programs like Publisher.

Instructor Bio: Jesse Locks is a former magazine writer and publisher, who has worked with publications such as Thasher Skateboard Magazine, Heckler, ESPN, Juxtapoz, Arthur Magazine, Seattle Weekly, and many others. In the fifth grade Jesse learned how to create her first magazine and has been hooked ever since. She has a BA of Literature and Journalism from UC Santa Cruz. She is currently the Executive Director of the Nevada City Film Festival.
