A Center audience favorite coming back for a fifth time!

No other festival or TV show can claim to have discovered as many future comedy superstars as the annual San Francisco Comedy Competition–including no less than Louis CK, Dana Carvey, Ellen DeGeneres and Robin Williams.

Performing at The Center will be 5 contestants in this year’s comedy competition, having survived an elimination process that started with hundreds of applicants. Each will offer up their very best 5 to 7 minute set. The night’s winner in the eyes of a prestigious panel of local judges will be announced at the conclusion of the show. Buy early for this one!

The Tommy Lama Experience

The master of ceremonies for tonight’s show is none other than self-guru, The Tommy Lama Experience. A session with Tommy will change your life. Hate your job? He can show you how to get fired. Need to quit smoking? Tommy will help you find an addiction better suited to your horoscope. Inadequate lover? Tommy Lama will help provide your wife with what she requires.

Watch out Tony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, and Joel Osteen. You may be converted.

The Tommy Lama Comedy Experience is a comedy spoof on the get-rich quick, self-help, and life coach gurus in America Today. The Tommy Lama Experience has enjoyed extended performances in Las Vegas at the Tropicana and Stratosphere Hotels.

Tommy Savitt is a previous winner of the Seattle International Comedy Competition and the Boston Comedy Festival as well as a two-time recipient of the LA Comedy Award for Stand-Up.

Dauood Mohammad Naimyar

David Naimyar was born Dauood Mohammad Naimyar, but at a very young age he knew the value of assimilating. Because of this, he tried his best to not be different but failed at every encounter. Once he embraced his eccentric point of view he saw the humor all around him.

David’s humor and comedic perspective is shaped by the duality of his constant need to fit in and be different. His search for being relatable and yet controversial has brought audiences joy for the last five years and will probably continue until he finally figures out who he is, which we hope he doesn’t ’cause bills need to be paid.

Cristian Machado

Cristian MachadoCristian Machado is a Boston native who recently moved to the comedy hotbed of Naples Florida. As the city’s youngest resident, his career has flourished. Most recently Cris has worked with comedic greats like Steve Byrne, TJ Miller, and Shawn Wayans.

David Nihill

Leaving Dublin, Ireland where he was born and raised until the age of 22, Dave Nihill got drunk on travel and never quite hit sobriety of it. Dave has lived and worked in twelve countries and visited over seventy.

His shows draw on his wide travels, cultural observations, attempts at language study, (occasional) international drinking session(s) and being a mildly confused immigrant in the US. A bestselling author, Dave has been featured on NPR, The Huffington Post, Inc and TV3 in exotic Ireland.

Mike Baldwin

Mike Baldwin simply goes out night after night and delivers top notch comedy. His style is instantly likable, entirely personal and it highlights his attention to detail.

Mike’s material is crisp and perfectly efficient and he supplements that material with subtle but perfect facial expressions and vocal inflections. Definitely a comic you don’t want to miss!

Kris Tinkle

Comedian Kris Tinkle has been making his mark on the New York City standup scene since he moved from his native San Francisco. In stand up, Kris has traveled as far as Iraq and Kuwait on USO Tours for the troops and has been a regular opener for Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr.

On TV he has appeared on Gotham Comedy Live Comedy and was a writer/producer on MTV’s breakout hit “Broke Ass Game Show.” Comedy nerds may recognize him from the Netflix film “I Am Road Comic” and numerous appearances on Sirius/XM and podcasts “Legion of Skanks,” “Doug Loves Movies” and the Artie Lange show.

He is currently watching red panda videos and his new comedy album will be available on a digital platforms in the fall of 2018.

Judges for tonight’s competition are:

Nancy Solyan – former production assistant and personal manager for Bill Graham Presents, HORDE and Lollapalooza Festivals, tour manager for Beck, director of production and booking associate for the Center Of The Arts and current owner of Brew Bakers coffee shop in downtown Grass Valley.

Cactus Sullivan – founder and leader of Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, the Grammy winning, internationally touring, purple velvet tuxedo wearing family funk phenomenon, and general all-around cool dad and hip cat.
