“Paint Like the Masters” is offered by the Center each summer and this year we’ve added a second week, due to it’s popularity.
Budding young artists paint in acrylics on canvas, recreating their own versions of the works of great masters such as Van Gogh, Monet & Picasso! Professional teaching-artists, Eileen Blodgett, Denise Wey and Nancy Schaefer provide the guided inspiration.
Eileen Blodgett has a BA in Art and has been a professional teaching artist for over 20 years in this county. She is a resident member of both ASiF Studios and Artworks, where she teaches painting, mixed media and print-making. She teaches art at Nevada City Charter School and at Deer Creek as part of the Artists in the Schools (AIS) program. Her art skills and gentle nature combine to make her a favorite among her students.
Denise Wey is a teaching-artist with 20 years experience, who resides at ASiF Studios where she is a painting and drawing instructor and works at Forest Charter School teaching art and is part of the Artists in the Schools (AIS) program for the county.
She believes that all children are artists and that they are already in touch with their creative nature. “I set the stage; provide good materials, encouragement and keep the mood light & fun! With a little guidance, they do the rest!”
Nancy Schaefer holds a BA in Studio Art with concentrations in ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, and jewelry. She is currently thrilled to be a teaching with the ambitious Artists in the Schools (AIS) program, bringing art to lucky 3rd graders in the Grass Valley School District. She also teaches a variety of painting classes with ArtsCool at ASiF, and is quickly becoming a regular here at the Grass Valley Center for the Arts.
She is an enthusiastic art teacher who believes in giving kids a positive and nurturing place to experiment and express their unique inner artist!
