Visual Arts Camps Summer 2023

SUMMER VISUAL ARTS CAMP

Five Sessions: June 12 – August 4, 2023

Week 1: Painting in Acrylic, Watercolor & Collage

Instructor: Nancy Schaefer 

Dates: June 12-June 16

Time: 1-4 PM

Ages: 8 – 14

Cost: $225 (Materials Included)

 

Get ready for a week of exploration into the surprising possibilities that paint and collage have to offer! In this totally new camp, we will be creating art on anything we can get our hands on. From upcycled thrift store paintings, to vintage book covers, and down to the tiniest worlds we’ll create on and inside of matchboxes. This camp is for anyone wishing to try something different, make some new friends and grow as an artist.

 

Week 2: Paint Lab

Instructor: Denise Wey

Dates: June 19-June 23

Time: 9am – 12pm

Ages: 10-16

Cost: $225 (Materials Included) 

NOTE: Can be purchased as a full day camp with altered books for $400

* There will be a 30 minute supervised lunch break. 

 

Paint Lab ages 10 and up – Experimental acrylic painting lab for creative young artists! . Students will have the freedom to explore many types of painting with acrylics paints and inks on cradled panel, canvas & paper. We will cover basic techniques and make fun discoveries, giving them the solid foundation that all artists utilize in their creative expression! Beginners are welcome and more advanced students can take their knowledge to the next level.

This class is designed to compliment the Explosion Books camp following in the afternoon!

 

Week 2: Painted Paper Explosion Books & Art Journals

 

Week 3: Paint like the Masters

Instructor: Denise Wey

Dates: June 26-30

Time: 9am – 12pm

Ages: 8 – 16

Cost: $225 (Materials Included) 

NOTE: Can be purchased as a full day camp with mixed media collage for $400

* There will be a 30 minute supervised lunch break. 

 

Paint Like the Masters 8 and up – In this camp, students will enjoy personalizing or jumping off from, the inspiration of past great masters! Painting in acrylics on canvas, students will learn the basics. We will cover brushwork, color harmonies and mixing, how to model form using values and most importantly, how to begin finding their own artistic voice! Beginners are welcome and more advanced students can take their skills to the next level.

Week 3: Mixed Media Collage Art Journals & Album Covers

Instructor: Nancy Schaefer

Dates: June 26-30

Time: 12:30pm – 3:30pm

Ages: 8-16

Cost: $225 (Materials Included)

NOTE: Can be purchased as a full day camp with paint like the masters for $400

* There will be a 30 minute supervised lunch break. 

 

Repurposing old hardcover books & Albums as journals, we’ll use a variety of print and recycled media, paint, markers and even fabric to explore and process the children’s feelings, and talk about their lives. In their journals, kids will also explore blackout poetry as a means to self expression and healing. 

 

Week 5: Drawing Manga

Instructor: Denise Wey

Dates: July 24-28

Time: 9:00-12:00

Ages: 10 – 16

Cost: $225 (Materials Included) 

 

Drawing Manga 10 and up – Manga is a Japanese word referring both to comics and cartooning. (Animae is the animated version of Manga) This class is for young Manga artists who want to work on developing their characters and is focused on learning to draw the human form…face, eyes, bodies, hands, etc. Lessons are given each class. The students may choose to follow along exactly or do the lesson in their own way entirely, depending on their own vision. 

 

 

Week 6: The Magic of Watercolor

Instructor: Kyra Kelley

Dates: July 31-Aug 4

Time: 9am – 12pm

Ages: 8 – 14

Cost: $225 (Materials Included)

 

A step-by-step class covering the basics of watercolor as well as additional, more advanced techniques. We will begin with studies of materials, color, washes, glazing, planning & drawing, brush techniques, masking fluid and composition. An explanation of the Principles and Elements of design will be covered – and included in our works of Art! Bring your imagination and 3 ideas or inspirational photos for 3 subjects! Let the Magic Begin!
