Taylor Jean & the Blackbird Vox is a new and exciting band created in 2015 between the tall pines of historic Nevada City, CA. The group consists of three main players, Taylor Jean on vocals, Alex Scribner on standup bass, and Jacob Zaller on keys. The trio’s sound is a flux of Alternative, Jazz, Rock-Pop, Grunge, and Lounge beats with fluid and magnetic vocals that dazzle the audience.
The ring leader of this night circus is Taylor Jean, who has been performing and creating visual art since a young age. The singer has studied voice since the age 6 and has classically trained in opera for 10 years with Dorla Menmuir. Taylor was also the lead student director in her award winning High School Jazz Ensemble for 3 consecutive years while being accepted into an elite group of honor choir students throughout California at the University of Pacific Conservatory of Music. With hundreds of live performances under her belt, Taylor’s adult years have consisted of studding music and working with many artists throughout California such as Lorraine Gervais, Saul Rayo, Earls of Newtown, and recording vocals with various solo artist and production companies. The singer has now put her energy into her first solo project, “Taylor Jean & the Blackbird Vox”. Crafting shapes and sounds- she breathes her own life into the texture of the tune to create a vocally ambient experience for the audience.
Alex Scribner is a Nevada County born self-taught musician specializing in electric/stand-up bass as well as song writing. He began his career though his high school jazz band and was later picked up as the stand-up bass position for the Nevada City Theater performing in the production of “My Way” a tribute to Frank Sinatra when he was 16.  After, he performed in The Cracker Jack Jazz Band, a Dixieland band lead by local bugle player, Joe Souza; Alex left his high school to study music theory and performance at an adult level at a local college. After graduating, he started a jazz/punk/psych band called The Devils Train which performed over 200 shows from Northern California and Western Nevada from 2009 to 2015. Currently, Alex the playing skillful bass in Taylor Jean and Blackbird Vox, My Dallas Teens, Cactus Cult, The Cory Wayne Band, Michael and the Machines.
Newest member, Keyboardist Jacob Zaller, is a Nevada City local and self-described “baby of the band.” Born into an unmusical family, against all odds he managed to discover and study the guitar on his own. By the late 2000’s he was singing in Nevada Union’s highly-prestigious Chamber Choir and later Davis Senior High’s equally-renowned Madrigal Choir. He also studied composition with composers Jerry Grant and Mark Vance under Music in the Mountain’s Young Composer’s Symposium. In 2013 Zaller began to perform in the cafes, restaurants, and nursing homes both as a solo act and in the jazz duo The Crows. Though primarily a guitarist Zaller began studying keyboards around this time. In addition to the Blackbird Vox he plays with such groups as My Dallas Teens, Wolf, Cactus Cult, The *n*l Beadles, and The 90’s Brats.
Taylor Jean & the Blackbird Vox will delight you with their eclectic song choices, will serve hip swaying sultriness while providing their listeners a memorable musical experience. Take a journey down memory lane with unforgettable gems from the past along with revamped modern hits that will sure will surely have their audience in awe of tears or singing right along!
