Hospice is a philosophy of care that focuses on two primary objectives:

  • Providing our patients with the highest possible quality of life
  • Providing medical, emotional, and spiritual care for patients and their loved ones

Hospice is a compassionate approach to care and support for patients and families facing end-of-life issues.

When is someone eligible for Hospice?

Hospice is for anyone with a life-limiting illness. Patients and families can receive care for six months or longer, depending on the progression of the illness. We work with patients and families to determine hospice benefit eligibility through Medicare, HMO/PPO, Medi-Cal and private insurance. At Hospice of the Foothills, care is available to all eligible patients.

Will our physician tell us when it’s time for hospice?

Some physicians may continue to pursue treatment because they believe that’s what the patient and family want. When a doctor does mention hospice care, he or she is presenting an option for comfort, which in many cases may actually lengthen life by increasing the quality of time remaining. It’s essential that you and your doctor talk openly and share the same goals for maintaining a high quality of life.

Can we call Hospice of the Foothills even if we don’t think it’s ‘time’?

You don’t need a physician’s referral to call Hospice of the Foothills. We will help assess your specific situation. If it appears that hospice care would be beneficial, with your permission we will contact your doctor to discuss admission. There is no cost and calling does not commit you or your loved one to hospice care.

At Hospice of the Foothills we believe every moment matters.

You can be assured that our goal is to provide the best possible care, regardless of ability to pay. If you have questions or concerns about hospice care, or whether hospice is right for you or your loved one, please call us today or visit our website.
