The Nevada County Poetry Series present D.R. Wagner and Patrick Grizzell, two of Northern California’s iconic poets, singer-songwriters, performing and visual artists. Bill Gainer, of the Nevada County Poetry Series, says, “Wagner and Grizzell have done the work, been there when the magic happened and shared it all with open hearts – these guys are poetry – they are the magic!”
D.R. Wagner is the author of over 20 books and chapbooks of poetry and letters. He is a well know contributor to the Mimeo Revolution, founding – press : today : Niagara and Runcible Spoon; producing over fifty magazines and chapbooks. He co-wrote The Egyptian Stroboscope with d.a. levy in the late 1960’s. As a visual artist – producing miniature needle-made tapestries, Wagner exhibits internationally and is cataloged in numerous publications. Wagner is a respected singer-songwriter and performer, playing guitar and keyboards. He continues to teach Design at the U.C. Davis and Poetry by Design for the university’s Honors program. Wagner’s latest books include a collection of his poetry and tapestries – Where The Stars Are Kept, and a collection of poetry – A Limited Means of Expression.
Patrick Grizzell is a poet, singer-songwriter and visual artist. His books include Dark Music: Selected Poems and Stories – edited by D.R. Wagner, Chicken Months – about which Robert Bly wrote, “… the poems have a sweet spontaneity and tenderness.” The Goat of Esmeralda, and with painter Jimi Suzuki, a chapbook of sumi paintings and poetry entitled Minotaure Into Night. Rattlesnake Press published a chapbook, 13 Poems, in 2008. Grizzell was a founding member and previous director of the Sacramento Poetry Center. He has performed poetry and music with, among others: Allen Ginsberg, Leon Redbone, Gary Snyder, Ed Sanders, Taj Mahal, Shizumi Shigeto, William Stafford, Robert Creeley and Anne Waldman. This guy has put in the work!
The reading and open-mic will be videoed for presentation on NCTV, channel 11.
Tickets are available at the door for $5 general, seniors and students, and $1 for those under 18. Refreshments and open-mic included.
