Child Advocates of Nevada County provides advocacy and prevention services so children in our community can grow up free from abuse and neglect. Our vision is all children in Nevada County grow up in a safe, nurturing, and healthy environment. We are passionate about the welfare of children because we know that abuse diminishes the futures of our children as well as the health of our community. The cost of abuse to our nation is estimated to be $1.3 billion each year. The toll it takes on a child\’s life is immeasurable.
Children need healthy relationships to lead productive lives. We oversee four programs that empower and support children and families and foster healthy relationships. Our Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA volunteers, are paired with children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. The CASA volunteer makes sure that needs of the child assigned to him or her are being met during this arduous process. Foothills and Truckee Healthy Babies\’ home visitors empower families. Home visitors provide referrals, parenting education, and assist with coping skills to prevent abuse and neglect before it has a chance to start. Welcome Baby visitors greet moms and newborns in the hospital to make sure every mom will have the information and the support needed to get off to a great start. Our Child Safety Puppeteers program trains over 120 high school students each year who perform educational puppet shows to preschool and elementary school children. These shows focus on developing skills to recognize and stand up to abuse and how ask for help if a child is in an abusive situation.
Mission Statement: Provide advocacy, education and prevention services to help our children grow up free from abuse and neglect.
